About
Almost every major city in Iowa, from Des Moines to Cedar Rapids to Waterloo, was affected by the disasterous flooding of 2008. The Iowa flood involved almost all of the rivers in eastern Iowa and amounted to nearly $7 billion in total damages.
The flooding began June 8, 2008 and ended around July 1. The phrase “Iowa’s Katrina” was commonly used to refer to the catastrophe. Some communities, like Palo, Iowa, were completely destroyed and have yet to fully recover.
Save Iowa is a website setup to assist the victims of the historic and devastating event. The goal of Save Iowa was to provide a central resource for those affected by the floods or those looking to find out more information.
During the aftermath of the flood, Save Iowa gained popularity throughout the state and in the blogosphere. It became a major online resource that was featured on then Senator Barack Obama’s website. The Senator has since gone on to The White House.
Save Iowa also features several other Iowa-related causes and charities, to help organizations and activities better highlight the relief efforts throughout the Hawkeye state. This site is aimed at assisting visitors in finding out how they can help Iowa continue to recover.
